Cowan Tire & Auto Service began (as Cowan Tire & Battery) in 1944!  Arnold Cowan had been working for Goodyear in Akron, and at the end of WWII they urged selected members of management to go out and open stores in order to establishment retail distribution that would service pent up demand.  The business was located in several downtown Forest City locations over the years, and eventually in 1965 his son Gaylord built a second location in Rutherfordton.  Third generation Hunt Cowan, worked for Goodyear briefly and returned to the family business in 1991.  Together with his wife Sallie, at our current location they constructed a new state-of-the-art facility offering all levels of automotive service.
